India 2008 India is one of the planet's most developed countries. It has a budget of 300 billion dollars, more cash in Swiss banks than any other country, a space program, a high tech army etc... Yet the level of poverty, mostly in its urban areas is mindblowing and very difficult to swallow if you have affinity for the place like I do. The number of homeless, living in the streets and avenues of Indian cities is something you think you get used to after numerous visits. But not really.
